For over three decades, Chris Rock has been a staple brand in the comedy industry. His work in A-list films has made him known to everyone who’s not living under a rock. But his stand-up comedy career is what makes him a remarkable success. His stand-up topics are usually about his family, his upbringing, racial issues in America, and politics.
In 1994, Rock starred in HBO’s comedy special HBO Comedy Half-Hour. By 1997, Rock’s segment entitled, Bring the Pain earned him two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Special and Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program. One year later, he would win one more Emmy for Bring the Pain. Rock would win one more Emmy in 2009 for Chris Rock: Kill the Messenger under the Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program. Rock also released several comedy albums that would earn him three Grammys for Best Comedy Album in 1998, 2000, and 2006.
In 2015, Rock was invited to host the 88th Academy Awards. Instead of boycotting the show like many of his fans demanded, Rock continued to host the program and spoke out against the lack of diversity in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He was lauded by critics from the Los Angeles Times and New York Times For his candor.
Aside from acting in films, writing, hosting, and stand-up comedy, Rock has also starred in a Broadway show and released several music videos from his album, Born Suspect.
