Dead Can Dance [CANCELLED] at Paramount Theatre Seattle

It has been a long time coming for Dead Can Dance’s performance on U.S. shores. The avant-garde rockers who consider themselves a cross between goth rock and post-punk are a rare sight among fans in the U.S. Their last groundbreaking performance took place at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in 2013. The highly-regarded performance had fans raving and critics swooning for their high-energy set and exhilarating soundscape. The band, composed of Lissa Gerard, Brendan Perry, Simon Monroe, and Paul Erikson, first took the world by storm in 1981. The group departed Melbourne, their home city, to promote their music in England. With the music style they wanted to pursue, London was a better fit. Indeed, the band secured a record deal with 4AD and released their eponymous album in 1984.

In 1993, Dead Can Dance had their first breakthrough when they released their sixth studio effort, Into the Labyrinth. The album peaked at number 22 on the Billboard 200 chart and received rave reviews from fans and critics. The band continued their chart performing streak when they dropped their follow-up album, Spirit Chaser, in 1996. The album achieved worldwide acclaim and topped the Billboard U.S. World Albums charts.

It took more than ten years for Dead Can Dance to come out with their latest album, Dionysus. However, it was worth the wait as the highly regarded album entered the charts in 12 countries and received positive reviews from music critics.
