The song is more than just a track in the popular video game. Upon its release, the song entered the Billboard 200 and peaked at number 11. It stayed in the chart for seven weeks and dominated the radio stations. By 1990, forty years after its release, the song was certified quadruple platinum. Moreover, it was also ranked number 96 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.
Besides “Carry On My Wayward Son,” Kansas has released several more iconic songs like “Dust in the Wind” and “Point of Know Return.” Kansas’ popularity rose to unbelievable heights with “Dust in the Wind.” The triple platinum-certified song is the band’s highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 6.
