Formed of band members Wayne Coyne, Michael Ivins, Steven Drozd, Derek Brown, Jake Ingalls, Matt Duckworth and Nicholas Ley in 1983, The Flaming Lips are best known for their connections with 1960s and 1970s psychedelic subculture. Elements of psychedelia are at the forefront of the band’s image, sound, and lyrics. Wayne Coyne’s words are often focused on the science fiction and space opera genres that were particularly popular during the 70s, using the genres as a vehicle to convey more universal messages about love and relationships, all the while exploring them on a greater, more metaphysical level.

After “She Don’t Use Jelly,” their first hit single in the U.S, the band has continued to keep up critical respect and commercial appeal through albums including “The Soft Bulletin” (the NME magazine's Album of the Year in 1999) and 2002’s famous “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots”. Their new album, “Oczy Mlody,” is a spectacular return to form, with rave reviews from Rolling Stone magazine; “The Flaming Lips take fans on another acid trip-like adventure in the band's new song/video for "How??," the second single off their upcoming LP Oczy Mlody.”
