American musician and singer Zhu began his career in 2014, and for the first six months or so was entirely anonymous. His first track that gained attention was a mash-up of several different Outkast songs called "Moves Like Ms Jackson", released in February 2014, followed by several tracks on SoundCloud and an EP titled The Nightday in April. "Faded", the first single from the EP, drew the attention of UK-based DJ Pete Tong, who named it an "Essential New Tune" on his radio show on BBC Radio 1. It found rapid international chart success, peaking at number 3 in the UK and Australia, and number 12 on the US Dance/Electronic chart, as well as earning a Grammy Award nomination. 2015 saw the release of a second critically acclaimed EP, Genesis Series, which featured collaborations with Skrillex, AlunaGeorge, A-Trak, and Bone Thugs N Harmony, among others. The following year, Zhu released his debut album, Generationwhy. His second studio album, Ringo's Desert, is slated for a 2018 release.
