Jim Gaffigan's career began in 1990 when he moved to New York to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. The comedian, actor, writer, and producer had first become interested in performing comedy in his native Indiana, where a friend had dared him to try his hand at it on stage, and he soon began to make a name for himself on the comedy club circuit in New York. After ten years of hard graft, his big break came when he was invited to perform on the Late Show with David Letterman. Letterman took a shine to Gaffigan and hand-picked him to develop the short-lived sitcom Welcome to New York. Although the show did not work out, Gaffigan went on to land acting roles in several prominent TV series including That ’70s Show, Sex and the City, Third Watch, Ed and Law & Order. Since 2001, Gaffigan has released 12 comedy albums, four of which have been nominated for a Grammy Award. From 2005 – 2008, Gaffigan produced a series of Emmy-nominated animated shorts for Late Night with Conan O'Brien, titled Pale Force, which featured Gaffigan and O'Brien as superheroes who fight crime with their extremely pale skin. Gaffigan also co-wrote, co-executive produced and co-starred in The Jim Gaffigan Show with his wife from 2015 – 2016, in which they played a fictionalized version of themselves raising five children in a two-bedroom New York City apartment.
