Synopsis

The show has its origination in the early 1930s just ahead of the end of the Prohibition era. Two male jazz musicians, Joe and Jerry, see a mobster commit a crime at the Speakeasy where they are working. Rather than allow the mobster to make them a target, the musicians decide to go on the run.

They put on women’s clothing and, though they are cross-dressing, are able to join a touring all-female swing big band. While touring, the two fall for the band’s singer, Sugar Kane. They keep their real identities concealed, but they both hope to find romance Sugar Kane.

Whilst touring, engagements form that threaten to expose Joe and Jerry as men. The mob and the FBI become involved, spotting Jerry and Joe from their tap-dancing routines, further complicating the groups traveling to performances and its ability to receive funding from new investors.

Jerry, who now must pass off as Daphne, falls in love with one of the investors, leading to an engagement. Eventually, everyones real identity becomes known, but that doesn't change their feelings for each other. As Prohibition comes to an end, everyone is able to move on with their new lives.

Origins

This beloved musical comedy was written in 2022 with Marc Shaiman’s music and lyrics, Scott Wittman’s lyrics, and Matthew López and Amber Ruffin’s book. It earned 13 nominations for the 76th Tony Awards. It also won Best Costumes and Best Choreography. Ensuring you will enjoy the visual portions of the show as much as the amazing music and lyrics. This musical follows the captivating story told in the 1959 movie. The film starred the stunning Marilyn Monroe, making it incredibly popular at the time. Production History

Some Like It Hot had its opening night at the Shubert Theater on Broadway in late 2022. Its show-ending performance was near the end of 2023. The shows North American tour started in 2024 and continues at this time. You now can experience the show in your acclaimed theater in Seattle.
