Brief History
Opened in 1928 as the Seattle theatre, the opulent Paramount Theatre is widely known as the premier performing arts venue in town! With lavish decoration reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles, and a lively roster of vaudeville shows and silent movies, the theatre was the place to be in the Roaring Twenties, and nowadays it’s just as popular! Though it started as the Seattle Theatre with 3,000 seats in the late 1920s featuring silent films and talkies, Seattle’s Paramount Theatre of today is a glorious 2,807-seat performing arts venue. As of October 9, 1974, the Paramount Theatre is on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s also one of Seattle’s most notable, long-standing landmarks.
The Paramount Theatre’s long history makes it no stranger to change. Over the years, many of Paramount Theatre’s owners would change how they managed the theatre and the types of national and local entertainment the Paramount Theatre would feature. They did everything they could to ensure the Paramount Theatre withstood the test of time and adjusted to the different waves of film and music the country would experience throughout the decades.
