Some Like It Hot at Paramount Theatre Seattle

Set in Chicago during Prohibition when jazz music was everywhere, "Some Like It Hot" draws comparisons to another famous Broadway show, Chicago. Jazz elements fill the entire show as the main characters, Joe and Jerry, are struggling musicians trying to survive on speakeasy shows. Their lives face a comical turn twist when they witness a gangster committing a crime in their mob-controlled speakeasy and need to begin cross-dressing to protect their identities as new criminal targets. 

Joe takes on the persona of Josephine, while Jerry transforms into Daphne and the two join an all-female swing band. The band's singer Sugar Kane becomes a pivotal part of their story as the two men attempt to woo her without revealing their identities. The journey each character tests their strengths and teaches them unexpected lessons about themselves. 

If the story sounds familiar, it's because "Some Like It Hot" is a Broadway reimagining of the 1959 film of the same name, which starred prolific actors Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. The movie was based on the 1953 French movie Fanfare of Love and has since become one of the most influential movies in American cinema. The movie earned three Golden Globe Awards and one Academy Award and was chosen to be in the first class of 25 films chosen by the US National Film Registry for preservation.

The film's impressive success led it to become the basis for the 1972 Broadway show "Sugar", and multiple theatre productions in the 1990s. Then on to the 2022 Broadway adaptation. Audiences rave about the show and rush to secure tickets for performances at Paramount Theatre and other theaters. "Some Like It Hot" features showtunes by Marc Shaiman and Marc Wittman, the duo behind numerous hit musicals like "Hairspray" and "Catch Me If You Can." 

The show includes toe-tapping dance numbers and truely lovable songs like "I'm California Bound," "Baby, Let's Get Good," and "Zee Bap." The original Broadway cast earned a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
