Synopsis

Set in the diverse and gritty streets of Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, the story follows 17-year-old Ali, a bold teen’s journey of self-discovery amid her overprotective single mother’s watchful eye. Follow Ali as she rebels and discovers her musical gift through piano lessons with her sage mentor, Miss Liza Jane, and sparks a romance with street drummer Knuck. Conflicts rise with family drama involving her absentee father, Davis. Through triumphs and challenges, Ali learns to embrace her voice, her origins, and the neighborhood that defines her. Hell's Kitchen began its journey in 2011, inspired by Alicia Keys' personal experiences. It premiered Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2023 to critical acclaim, prolonging its run before moving to Broadway in 2024, with previews starting March 28 and an official opening on April 20. The show earned 13 Tony Award nominations in 2024, winning Best Actress in a Leading Role for Maleah Joi Moon and Best Featured Actress for Kecia Lewis. In 2025, it claimed the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.
