The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company is going to be in Seattle for a few shows in the spring of 2026. This has become a staple of the Paramount Theatre over the years. Simply put you're not going to be able to find a dance performance that mimics what you get from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Usually this is where we say, "all year here in Seattle," but in this case, it's all year anywhere unless you catch this company at another stop!
The truly unique style that the late great Alvin Ailey imprinted on this company lives on, and you'll be able to experience it on Friday, March 20th. With most dance companies, what you get is a rendition of a classic ballet or musical. These can be great fun because of the story arc, and you have the dances mixed in to provide an added element of entertainment. With the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, though, you get an experience where the dance is the focal point of the performance. The story is really being told through that and not just having dancing as an add-on, if you will.
Finding the right seats to an event like this is essential, but we'll get to that in a bit. One of the keys to this performance is allowing the silence and the still moments to permeate through the audience. To truly appreciate what's taking place on stage, your eyes need to be glued to the performers, and you need not be in a hurry. Arrive early, find your seats, and get any drinks or snacks that you want to be able to enjoy the performance. Once you've done that, then all that's left to do is sit back and relax!

At the same time, you might not want to be as far away from the stage as you would maybe at a play. That could lead to missing some key details in the costumes and the movements of the dancers.
