Silent Movie Mondays: Lady Windermere’s Fan at Paramount Theatre Seattle

This is one of the most "deep" movies of the era. It features something that was really common at the time, where filmmakers would take a play and turn it into a movie. During those days, that was one of the most logical things to do because you already had a story in place, but you were transitioning to a new medium. However, we do see a massive evolution in filmmaking because in this movie, they take scenes outside the theater, unlike Trip to the Moon. It's a 20+ year difference between the two films, and although we still don't have audio, the story plays out in different locations, which helps create a different atmosphere for the audience.

Some of these movies that are a part of this traditional series tell great stories, but that's just part of the experience. You get to walk into a venue that was actually opened in 1928, with this movie premiering only 3 years prior. This creates the time capsule effect that the folks at the Seattle Theatre Group are going for. It's a good way to frame this entire situation. It's not just about "seeing an old movie in a large format." What you're doing is winding back the clock and actually re-imagining what entertainment in general could've been like in those years.
