She’s one of the most acclaimed songwriters in the indie folk scene! Adrianne Lenker has been writing music since her childhood and impressively dropped her debut album, Stages of the Sun, at 14 years old. After founding indie-folk powerhouse Big Thief with Buck Meek in 2015, Lenker also became the group’s primary songwriter. Her talent stemmed from her love of music. Hence, she was sponsored by the legendary country singer Susan Tedeschi to go to Berklee College of Music. After her outstanding debut effort, Lenker moved on to release several more highly acclaimed efforts, including her breakthrough album, Abysskiss, in 2018. The critically regarded work entered Billboard’s U.S. Heatseekers and Top Indie Albums chart.
In 2020, she dropped a double album, Songs and Instrumentals, which made its way to number 12 on Billboard’s Top Folk Albums chart. Some critics described the double album as her best solo work and as “good as a couple of the Big Thief Albums.” Meanwhile, Pitchfork said, “Some of these songs are as lovely as any Lenker has ever written: lush and verdant, chords fanning out like ferns, their major-key tonalities at odds with the heartbreak at the album’s core.”
Aside from her penchant for songwriting, Adrianne Lenkers has been praised for her outstanding live shows.
