Everybody laughs, everybody cries, and most of all - everybody can't help but sing. Through life's toughest and sweetest moments, it's music that always stands by people's hearts. Now, it sure is clear why David Byrne's music resonates with millions of hearts across a legacy of decades in his career. It's music that speaks to the soul. This time, he's back with a new album "Who Is the Sky", marking his first record since 2018's "American Utopia". With a new song "Everybody Laughs" giving fans a taste of what to expect, seems like everyone's in for a sweet treat.
"Everybody laughs and everybody cries/ Everybody lives and everybody dies/ Everybody eats and everybody loves/ Everybody knows what everybody does," Byrne's new song goes. Through acoustic riffs and bouncy beats, it's a signature David Byrne track that simply resonates with souls going through life's ups, down, twists, and turns.
Exploring polar opposites in his newest release, "Everybody lives, dies, laughs, cries, sleeps and stares at the ceiling. Everybody’s wearing everybody else’s shoes, which not everybody does, but I have done," said Byrne. Having tried to sing these topics in a way that might be seen in a negative way, the singer balanced it off through uplifting melodies and a groove that invites you to dance.
"Music can do that – hold opposites simultaneously. I realized that when singing with Robyn earlier this year. Her songs are often sad, but the music is joyous."
About the album, Byrne shares that there's "more story songs than usual," filled with personal narratives of his life lately. For sure, every emotion will be felt as the man takes everyone on an emotional ride. Produced by the Gramm Award-winning Kid Harpoon, and arranged by members of the Ghost Train Orchestra, you can expect magnificent sonic elements that bring his storytelling abilities to life.
"It took me a second to realize, oh yeah, these songs are personal, but with David’s unique perspective on life in general," Harpoon shared.
The album will feature performances by St. Vincent, Hayley Williams, and Smile drummer Tom Skinner. Stirring much excitement surrounding his new album's release, as everybody laughs - you're in for big surprises.
Following the album's release, Byrne is heading out for an extensive "Who Is The Sky" Tour. Hitting the road with a touring band made up of 13 singers, musicians, dancers, and even members of the 'American Utopia' band, get ready for a spectacular concert experience led by the man himself.
