“You heard right: for the first time EVER, I’m going to be playing a set focusing solely on my 1996 debut album. Honestly, I was ready to do it anyway, but the fact that "Endtroducing" is turning 30 years old this year made it a no-brainer. I’m genuinely excited to be putting this show together!” — DJ Shadow shared on his website.
Now, ya’ll know what to do. Come over and join the good vibes as he turns the clock and brings 1996 back to the stage. ENDTRODUCING….. DJ Shadow’s hard-hitting debut banger!
“ENDTRODUCING…..” was Shadow’s first full-length project, and would go on to take over the scene with critical acclaim. It would even take a Guinness World Record for “First Completely Sampled Album” in 2001. Producing the record himself, he made pretty legendary tunes with AKAI MPC60 II 12-bit sampling drum machine, turntables, and a borrowed Pro Tools setup from Dan "The Automator" Nakamura. With singles and hits like “Best Foot Forward,” “What Does Your Soul Look Like (Part 4),” and “Midnight in a Perfect World,” listeners around the world kept buying CDs, radio stations kept ‘em on the air, and tons of fans came over to party at his shows. By November 2006, Time Magazine included “ENDTRODUCING…..” as one of its “All-Time” 100 best albums.
DJ Shadow sure marked history. Entertainment Weekly wrote that Shadow “takes hip-hop into the next dimension,” while The Guardian said that it was “not only one of the most daring and original albums of recent times, but also one of the loveliest.” To this day, Alternative Press’ review remains loud and clear, it’s “an undeniable hip-hop masterpiece.”
