Hot Java Cool Jazz at Paramount Theatre Seattle

The Hot Java Cool Jazz has been a time-honored tradition that brings outstanding talents to the stage. This year’s edition returns to the Paramount Theatre Seattle. Spectators will be privileged to catch the most amazing high-school jazz programs in Washington, including Bellevue, Roosevelt, Garfield, Mount Si, and Bothell. In last year’s Hot Java Cool Jazz, amazing musicians from these high schools showcased their great penchant for music. Musician Nicholas Chang from Roosevelt High School mentioned, “Online, you could listen to a recording with 500 takes. But when you’re there, you’re playing the actual notes. You’re hearing the actual humanness of playing.” He also added that live music is the “human experience.”

This year’s Hot Java Cool Jazz is guaranteed to feature a plethora of remarkable musicians. The high schools’ top-tier jazz programs have steadily honed and developed these young talents. Organized by Starbucks, Hot Java Cool Jazz has been an ongoing event since 1995, and one hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the participating schools. The 27th Hot Java Cool Jazz will feature some returning musicians, as well as first-time performers.

Neptune Rasnic Olson from Garfield High School shares, “I think there’s almost something addicting about it. You’re connecting with other people you’re onstage with, and you’re connecting with the audience in a way that is not the same over a camera.”
