Set largely in the period preceding and during the widespread rebellion in 1832 in France, the musical, Les Misérables is the story of Jean Valjean, a citizen of Paris, France who was convicted for almost two decades as a consequence of a small act of theft for his nephew. Despite nearing the end of his sentence, he escapes and seeks redemption as an honest man; Jean Valjean then adopts a brand new identity as Monsieur Madeleine, while still constantly being pursued by his nemesis, Javert, an officer loyal to the letter of the law and set on apprehending and bringing the ex-convict back to prison.

Transpiring over a span of almost two decades across the show's two acts, Jean Valjean is involved in one way or another with a few important figures in every part of Les Mis – Fantine is one of Monsieur Madeleine’s factory workers who mothers an illegitimate baby; Cosette is the foster daughter of Madeleine, who by no surprise Fantine’s daughter; Marius, a young Frenchman fighting for the revolt and the true love of Cosette. Other individuals seen in Les Misérables are the Thénardiers, greedy innkeepers who pay no heed to their daughter and are consumed with their own personal gain; Eponine, their daughter, who is desperately infatuated with for Marius; and members of the rebellion namely Gavroche, a naive but resourceful child, and the rebellion’s fearless leader, Enjolras.

This motley cast of characters entangled by serendipity and their unique hardships are adapted skillfully on live stage, not just with its 1800s French-based clothing and prop creations, but principally with Les Mis being sung-through fully from start to finish. With hit songs such as “I Dreamed a Dream” and “One Day More” as highlights of its astounding song list, the heart-stopping show is able to portray the real and unmasked personalities beneath every character that plays out beautifully in each performance.

The global hit's next stage will be in the exemplary Paramount Theatre in Seattle, running for a limited season on Saturday 11th April 2026.
