With rampant corruption, unemployment, and abuse in the 1800s in Paris, a convicted lawbreaker by the name of Jean Valjean breaks his parole after nineteen years incarcerated. Due to a fortunate, albeit lucky, series of events, he is free to start his life anew and creates a new identity as Monsieur Madeleine, ultimately rising to become a factory owner and a mayor. Though previously lucky in building his new life, hidden from his rival Javert, Valjean is unfortunately pulled in the uprising of the commoners of Paris, France, wherein Valjean is compelled to find solutions that would change the lives of the people around him forever.

This narrative from Victor Hugo's novel, full of sacrifice and passion, has been going on for several decades in several theaters over many different countries. Since its debut in French theatre in the late 1900s, it has secured its place not only as one of the most spectacular plays of this generation, but also part of the most-awarded musicals as well. In its global debut by itself, it topped the nominations and awards of the acclaimed Tony Awards, with 12 nominations and 8 wins. Les Misérables obtained awards as Best Featured Actor and Actress in a Musical, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Musical. Afterwards, the box office hit continued to gain awards and nominations in its new productions in Broadway, Toronto, and Australian tours including from the Green Room Awards, Helpmann Awards, Dora Awards, and as expected, Tony Awards once more.
