The company has been putting on this show across the country for decades. This means that it has been perhaps the only exposure that generations of people have had to this all-time classic. To be honest, that's quite a treat! Year over year, the company makes an effort to tweak the story, the visuals, and even the dances to make sure that audiences are getting a fresh take on the classic that they'll be able to enjoy.
There's an effort, at least in this version of the show, to ensure the audience understands there's magic involved in the story. Sorry for the spoilers, but ... if you know the original screenplay, you know, for example, that a pivotal moment in the story is when the Nutcracker doll comes to life. The way that's portrayed in this version, which is coming to Seattle, allows particularly the younger members of the audience to get at least a glimpse of the magic as a dancer embodies the nutcracker doll.
