Some Like It Hot at Paramount Theatre Seattle

Set in Chicago during Prohibition when jazz music was all the rage, "Some Like It Hot" draws similarities to another award winning Broadway show, Chicago. Jazz elements enhance the entire show as the main characters, Joe and Jerry, are struggling musicians working to survive on speakeasy performances. Their lives face an unexpected wrench when they witness a gangster committing a crime in their mob-controlled speakeasy and need to begin cross-dressing to protect their identities as new criminal targets. 

Joe takes on the persona of Josephine, while Jerry disguises himself as Daphne and the two join an all-female swing band. The band's singer Sugar Kane becomes a challenging part of their story as the two men hope to earn her affection without revealing their identities. The adventure each character tests their strengths and teaches them surprising lessons about themselves. 

Did you know that "Some Like It Hot" is a Broadway adaptation of the 1959 movie of the same name, which starred the legendary Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. The movie was based on the 1953 French movie Fanfare of Love and has since become one of the most culturally relevant movies of any generation. The movie earned three Golden Globe Awards and one Academy Award and was among the first class of 25 movies chosen by the US National Film Registry for preservation.

The film's widespread success led it to become the foundation for the 1972 Broadway show "Sugar", and multiple theatre productions in the 1990s. Then on to the 2022 Broadway adaptation. Audiences can't get enough of the show and hurry to secure tickets for performances at Paramount Theatre and others across the country. "Some Like It Hot" features showtunes by Marc Shaiman and Marc Wittman, the hitmakers behind numerous hit musicals like "Hairspray" and "Catch Me If You Can." 

The production includes toe-tapping dance numbers and catchy songs like "I'm California Bound," "Baby, Let's Get Good," and "Zee Bap." The original Broadway cast earned a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
