About The Film

First premiered in 1986, Stand By Me has become one of the most memorable films that highlight youth nostalgia, Rolling Stone sharing that it's "the rare movie that necessarily gets better with time." In 1985, Gordie Lachance comes across a newspaper article about the death of his childhood best friend, looking back at Labor Day weekend in 1959 when he was 12. Hearing about Vern's older brother about finding a missing body out of town, Chris, Teddy, and Vern decide to look for the missing boy themselves, hoping to become local heroes. With plenty of misadventures, it's a journey that touched hearts, sharing the vibes of youth.

"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?" - Gordie narrates as the film comes to a close.

Adapted from the Stephen King novella "The Body", the film received positive reviews from critics, and later became an iconic piece of time with new generations looking back at the masterpiece as one of the greatest films made, depicting the heart of youth and friendship. Stand By Me received the "Jackie Coogan Award for Outstanding Contribution to Youth Through Motion Picture – Ensemble Cast in a Feature Film" at the 8th Youth in Film Awards.

Back in 2016, its 30th anniversary was celebrated, and Rolling Stone writer Charles Bramesco called it "timeless... a staple of youthful nostalgia for its deft straddling of the line between childhood and adulthood." Several critics call it a classic coming-of-age masterpiece, onew that stood at "the apex of the '80s kids' movie boom."
