SYNOPSIS
An elderly Noah and his darling wife, Allie, live in a retirement home. Noah reads a love story from a notebook to Allie, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, in an attempt to inspire remembrance of the incredible tale of their life and love.
The tale is woven together by recollections from three timelines, and follows their love story from when they first met as teenagers – Noah a working-class boy, and Allie coming from a wealthy family. Due to their different social classes, their friends and families persuade them to rather stand down. During the course of their lives, they sometimes find each other for brief moments, but the forces keeping them apart seem stronger.
An old renovated house with blue shutters, the docks, that famous rain-kiss – and in the end, not even the powerful hands of Alzheimer’s and a stroke couldn’t succeed in keeping this meant-to-be couple apart.
The Notebook (The Musical) is truly a visual representation of the enduring power of true love.
“Absolutely gorgeous, not to be missed.” – Chicago Tribune

HISTORY AND LEGACY
What started as a workshop at the Powerhouse Theatre at Vassar College in 2019 at the incredibly talented hands of director Michael Greif, catapulted into a theatrical triumph at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre in 2022 with its world premiere. Nicholas Sparks’ incredible tale, masterfully adapted into a book for stage by Bekah Brunstetter, and complimented with Ingrid Michaelson’s wonderful music and lyrics, progressed to the Broadway stage in 2024, and at its premiere at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, knocked the musical theatre world completely off its axis.
To date, The Notebook (The Musical) racked up three Tony Award nominations, three Drama League Award nominations, an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination, and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Musical Theatre Album.
Nicholas Sparks’ best-seller has also been adapted for film, featuring Ryan Gosling as Noah, and Rachel McAdams as Allie. The film was also a smash-hit, receiving many awards.
